From the recording Nukukehe

Tokelau's cash economy has greatly changed the lives of the people living in Tokelau. The incentive to work the land is quickly diminishing. Cigarettes and sugar rich items subsidised and sold to the people are causing a serious rise in Diabetes and other health damaging effects.

I dreamt of meeting youAnd proceeded to tell everyone about youI was so proudI even wrote songs about you
I hesitated when I heard you’d changedBut still braved the elements to see youThe journey itself an adventureAn introduction leading me to you
Many many differences differencesMany differencesOvercome with sadnessI was overcome with sadness
Things have changed
I was saddened to have finally met youAs I came a little too lateYour prime was long agoWhen there was real pride in you
This is a different place nowSpoilt by things that are newPeople no longer tending the landBut opting to take the easy way out
We need to find a wayTo make us all proud againWe need to be strongIn actioning the right answerBefore it’s far too late
This land, this land I’ve always wantedto go to. A journey, for a long timeI needed to make.
